Burnaby is situated at the geographic midpoint of the Metro Vancouver area. The city occupies approximately 4% of the land area and accounts for 10% of the population of Greater Vancouver Regional District. Maclean’s magazine has hailed Burnaby as Canada’s best run city in 2009.
A 20 minute drive from Vancouver to the east will lead you to Burnaby. The city is positioned between Port Moody, New Westminster and Coquitlam to the east. The Fraser River and Burrard Inlet shape the borders of Burnaby on the South and North. The estimated 205,000 residents make it the third most populated city in British Columbia. There are three distinct areas; Burnaby North, Burnaby South and Burnaby East. Smaller neighborhoods subdivide these three areas.
The city of Burnaby is coming into its own. The local industrial and commercial activities are drawing more workers to the city. Like Vancouver its neighbor to the west, along with New Westminster, Burnaby inhabits a substantial portion of the Burrard Peninsula.
